"God is amazing. My motorcycle-driving brother was in an accident around 10:30 this morning. He flipped into the air across lanes of traffic and landed on a car on the other side of the road. He then proceeded to crash into the sidewalk and have his foot run over. It is a miracle he is alive. If he hadn't flipped into the air, he would be sandwiched... between a pole and an SUV, the driver of which was arrested for dwi. I just got back from visiting him at the hospital. He is doing better but he is still in a lot of pain. He has a few broken bones but he's going to live which is the most important thing. He is expected to be coming home tomorrow as long as he can walk with a walker. He will most likely be moving back to our house for a ...couple of months until he is healed. Thanks for all the prayers! He really shouldn't be alive right now. It's a miracle. His motorcycle is stuck into the grill of the SUV. I'm glad I talked to God last night."
Now to update...
When Dan's mother and I got to the hospital we went to patient check-in and received the worst help ever...the dumb intern at the desk was rude and unhelpful...the computer locked her out and therefore she was unable to get off her lazy ass and go ask someone were Dan was....the woman sitting next to her was too busy having a personal conversation about her ex-husband, ex-MIL and her son to be of any help....so finally I let the intern have it and flipped out on her until someone in the back got Dan's uncle and he took us back to where Dan was or would be. Dan was getting X-ray's and CT scans so Dan's uncle told us what had happened...which is pretty much where rachaels discription came from. When I found all of this out I crumpled up...if Dan's mother had not been with me at the hospital I probably would have been on my knees doubled over....Dan came back and was very drugged up....some of it was funny...some of it was just sad....either way I was in disbelief that he was talking and alive! It was finally determined that Dan was ok but thart they wanted to keep him over night for observation so they took him to the orthopedic ward at around 7:30 pm.
The next day July 22, 2009, physical therapy and occupational therapy came to see how well dan could move....he had only had oral pain medication at that point and time and was unable to sit up with out severe pain. So they ordered morphine, and came back some time later to see how he was doing. That time he was able to sit up and walk with a walker, which was good....and bad....so they got him back to the room and he fell asleep. While asleep some people in scrubs and white lab coats came in and started talking amongest themselves....but loud enough that I could here....and one of the women said he shouldnt be on morphine if he's passed out like that in the middle of the day, and he needs to be on oral medication and needs to go home. I wigged out, and informed her that, that was the only reason why he was on morphine was so they could do physical therapy, so the nexy set of xrays could be taken, and under no circumstances would Dan be going home that day. By this time Dan wakes up and explains why he was sleeping....he hadnt slept well the night before because the nurses kept waking him up, and finally he was being left alone so he wanted to sleep! Then he asked who was in charge, turns out that the woman who made the morphine comment was a chief resident as well as one other guy and the rest of the people were dumb residents. So dan asked to speak to his attending and they informed us he wouldnt be out of surgery until tonight and Dan said...thats fine. So for the rest of the day we kept getting mixed information...he was going home, he wasnt going home, they were getting him an ambulance, he was going to have to call someone to get him, finally we found out that our case worker had went home for the day and that because she was gone he was staying the night because the insurance company wanted to fight on paying for an ambulance ride home. So he stayed!
Sometime in the middle of the night his attending dr. came in to speak with us. He said that as long as he was able to move some while using oral medication that he should be going home today, he also said that he would look at the xrays from the day before and see if his fractures had shifted from him moving but that it was unlikely that they had. He then came back later in the day(July23, 2009) to let us know that the fractures hadnt shifted and he would be going home sometime that day. We then over heard the doctor talking to one of the nurses about the residents behavior, evidently the residents had been complaining about our behavior and the doctor tore them a new asshole for it. So the rest of the day the only hosptial people that really talked to us were, the nurse's, tech's, caseworker, homecare worker, and the attending doctors, the residents I think were banned from our room!
Dan and I also celebrated our 4th month-a-versay in that room!
Oh yeah and while all of this was going on I was PMSing! how wonderful! Whoops! lol
So now he is resting at his parents house and I am waiting for his kind younger brother to pick me up so I can help out with Dan for the day! :-D
